The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on April 14 that it is continuing conservation and maintenance work on the left margin of the Carretera Central. The efforts are aimed at ensuring safe and suitable transit conditions for thousands of users.
This initiative is important because the Carretera Central, particularly the Tarma–Jauja–Huancayo–Desvío Pampas section of national route PE-3S, serves as a main connection for central Peru. The ministry said technical staff and machinery from Provías Nacional have been deployed to carry out deep patching using base material, especially in San Agustín de Cajas.
The MTC reported that cold asphalt emulsion is being applied as part of these actions. This technique allows quick repairs to potholes, reduces work time, and enables immediate reopening of the road without extended closures. “These tasks are part of MTC’s commitment to keep the country’s road infrastructure in good condition, helping improve connectivity, transportation, and economic development in the regions,” according to the ministry.
Work will continue over coming weeks with more deep patching planned along with drainage system conservation measures considered essential for long-term durability. The MTC supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport infrastructure according to its official website.
The ministry operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to improve public access according to its official website. It also functions within Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport regulation according to its official website.
According to its official website, the MTC delivers safe, sustainable, and inclusive infrastructure services nationwide according to its official website, under ministerial guidance. The organization manages infrastructure projects supporting national integration since beginning operations in 1969 according to its official website.
