The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 29 that it has completed maintenance work on the Eduardo de Habich Bridge, located in the district of San Jerónimo de Surco, Huarochirí province. The bridge is a key part of the Central Highway, which connects Lima with regions in central Peru.
This maintenance is important because it ensures safe and efficient travel along one of the country’s main transport routes. The MTC said its unit Provías Nacional led the work to replace four neoprene supports—components that help absorb loads and provide flexibility for the bridge structure. Additional repairs included improvements to the road surface, installation of pendulum supports, repair of concrete slabs, fixing superficial cracks, and sealing joints.
According to MTC officials, complementary maintenance work is also being carried out by the highway concessionaire on other parts of the suspension structure. These activities are scheduled so they do not restrict vehicle traffic or disrupt transportation along this major route.
Provías Nacional also reported ongoing maintenance at Tamboraque III and Palomar bridges nearby. The agency expects these projects will be finished within this month.
The Ministry manages infrastructure and services in transport and communications to support national development and integration through multimodal approaches as well as partnerships with public entities since beginning operations in 1969 according to the official website. The ministry operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to enhance public access according to its official website.
The MTC delivers safe, sustainable, and inclusive infrastructure across Peru’s communities according to its official website. It functions as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over both sectors according to its official website, operating under ministerial guidance according to its official website.
