The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on April 30 the approval of the updated Master Plan for the Lambayeque Port Terminal, with an investment exceeding USD 616 million.
This decision is intended to strengthen port infrastructure and boost foreign trade from northern Peru. The plan was made official through Resolution N° 0037-2026-APN-DIR after a technical review. It aligns with the National Port Development Plan 2024-2030 and the National Port Policy, setting a roadmap for modernizing the terminal.
Located in Puerto Eten district, about 25 kilometers from Chiclayo, the terminal will connect with key logistics corridors such as the Pan-American Highway, trans-Andean road network, and future freight railways. This integration aims to facilitate goods movement to international markets. The terminal will also provide direct links to North America and Europe via the Panama Canal and integrate into Peru’s national cabotage system alongside Callao and Chancay.
The facility is planned to include modern infrastructure for mineral cargo, containers, multipurpose operations, a natural depth of 15 meters, smart cranes, and a high-resistance breakwater. These features are expected to lower logistics costs while supporting mining, agro-industrial, fishing, and energy sectors in regions including Cajamarca, Amazonas, San Martín, and Loreto.
Aldo Prieto said: “The approval of this Master Plan for Lambayeque Port Terminal marks a decisive step towards consolidating a modernized port system that boosts national competitiveness and creates new development opportunities in northern Peru.” The ministry affirmed its commitment to advancing strategic infrastructure that connects Peru with global markets while promoting regional economic growth.
