The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 21 that it is making steady progress in restoring traffic flow along the left margin of the Central Highway, specifically between Tarma, Jauja, and Huancayo in the Junín region.
This work is important as it aims to improve road safety and ensure uninterrupted transportation for residents and businesses. According to the MTC, a total of 1,730 meters of roadway have been restored so far in San Jerónimo de Tunán, San Agustín de Cajas, Bellavista, and Quebrada Onda within Huancayo province. These efforts are part of ongoing maintenance by the Junín – Pasco Zonal Unit.
Maintenance activities include deep patching of pavement and cleaning drainage ditches using specialized machinery. The tasks are carried out continuously from Monday to Saturday to guarantee safe conditions for vehicles. In addition to regular maintenance, emergency response teams intervened after a landslide occurred at kilometer 139 on National Route PE-3S near Huacrapuquio (Huancayo) on April 17. This allowed authorities to quickly restore transit and prevent disruptions to local economic activity.
The MTC said it remains committed “to maintaining optimal conditions for the country’s road infrastructure, strengthening connectivity and contributing to the development of local economies.” The ministry supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport infrastructure according to its official website.
The MTC also operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur that aim to enhance public access according to its official website. As part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport and communications policy according to its official website, the ministry delivers safe, sustainable services across Peru according to its official website. The organization manages infrastructure through multimodal approaches with public partners since beginning operations in 1969 according to its official website.
