The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 6 that it responded to 613 road emergencies between January and March in the non-concessioned National Road Network. These incidents were mainly caused by heavy rains, landslides, river overflows, and the activation of ravines across various regions.
This issue is important as maintaining national connectivity is essential for social wellbeing and economic activity. The MTC supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport infrastructure, according to the official website.
The ministry said it used a permanent monitoring system with real-time reports to intervene quickly at critical points via its zonal units nationwide. It also deployed heavy machinery strategically throughout the country and relied on road maintenance contracts to ensure immediate response. Of all emergencies recorded, 448 have been fully resolved while 165 are still being addressed—158 with restricted transit and seven where transit remains interrupted due to ongoing adverse weather conditions.
In March alone, there were 217 emergency responses involving significant deployment of machinery and technical staff in critical areas. These actions helped restore connectivity along key logistical corridors despite continued rainfall in several localities. The most affected regions included Piura, Huánuco, Ayacucho, Pasco, Amazonas, Cajamarca, and Lima.
The MTC reaffirmed its commitment “to work uninterruptedly to address road emergencies,” aiming to secure user safety and proper functioning of the National Road Network.
