The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on May 18 that it has activated immediate coverage from the SOAT and CAT Compensation Fund for two minors, aged 12 and 13, who were seriously injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene in Huamachuco, La Libertad region.
The activation of this coverage is significant as it ensures that victims of traffic accidents caused by unidentified vehicles receive necessary medical care without financial burden to their families. The ministry coordinated with Hospital Belén de Trujillo and the victims’ relatives to secure timely medical attention. As a result, the SOAT and CAT Compensation Fund issued guarantee letters to the hospital so both minors could continue receiving specialized treatment at no cost to their parents.
Initially, the adolescents were assisted at Hospital Leoncio Prado but were transferred urgently to Hospital Belén de Trujillo due to the severity of their injuries. The fund covers medical expenses, compensation payments, and other benefits established under current regulations for victims involved in accidents with unidentified vehicles.
“El Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones reafirma su compromiso de brindar atención oportuna y acompañamiento a las víctimas de accidentes de tránsito y a sus familiares,” said MTC officials in their statement.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications functions as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport and communications sectors; it aims to deliver safe, sustainable infrastructure while serving communities nationwide according to its official website.
