The Ministry of Transport and Communications responded on May 4 to a road emergency at the Ayacayana Bridge, located at kilometer 554+900 on route PE-3N between Catac and Huaraz. The incident, which was reported on May 1 at 9:35 p.m., involved ground movement that caused damage to the bridge structure. As a preventive measure, authorities restricted traffic in the area to ensure user safety.
A technical team was deployed by the ministry’s Áncash unit, including supervisors, assistants, operators, and support staff. They carried out immediate actions as part of their emergency response protocol. Equipment such as a flatbed truck, pressure washer, generator set, hydraulic jack, and an institutional vehicle were mobilized for maintenance work. Tasks included maintaining traffic flow, cleaning the bridge surface with water jets, painting impact barriers, and replacing displaced structural elements to stabilize the infrastructure.
The Ministry said it remains committed to acting promptly during emergencies affecting Peru’s national road network. “El MTC reafirma su compromiso de actuar de manera oportuna frente a emergencias en la Red Vial Nacional, priorizando la seguridad de los ciudadanos y la continuidad del tránsito en condiciones seguras,” according to the statement.
