The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) certified 62 investment projects in the manufacturing and internal commerce sectors, totaling more than S/ 780 million, between January and March, according to an April 6 announcement.
This development highlights ongoing efforts to support sustainable economic growth in Peru by ensuring that investments comply with environmental standards. PRODUCE acts as the competent authority for evaluating and approving environmental management instruments so that industrial activities align with sustainability and regulatory requirements.
“From PRODUCE we are committed to promoting a modern, competitive, and environmentally responsible industry. Each environmental certification we grant ensures that investments are developed meeting rigorous standards, contributing to economic growth with sustainability,” said the minister of the sector. Of the certified projects, 60 belong to manufacturing with an investment of S/ 712.9 million; two are in internal commerce with S/ 67 million invested. Most approvals were for Technical Support Reports (ITS), mainly in manufacturing, reflecting ongoing improvements and modernization.
PRODUCE reviews various environmental management documents such as semi-detailed Environmental Impact Studies (EIA-sd), Technical Support Reports (ITS), Environmental Impact Declarations (DIA), and their modifications. These processes ensure production activities incorporate measures for prevention, mitigation, and control of environmental impacts. “These figures show it is possible to move towards a sustainable industry without stopping growth. From this sector we continue facilitating investments that generate employment, promote innovation and strengthen competitiveness,” added the minister.
The Ministry of Production serves producers, entrepreneurs and communities throughout Peru according to its official website. It promotes social inclusion initiatives aimed at improving living conditions for fishermen and producers nationwide according to its official website. The ministry operates from several facilities in San Isidro, Lima including its central headquarters according to its official website.
As reported by its official website, PRODUCE is responsible for crafting national policies on fishing, aquaculture, micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises as well as industry policy oversight to foster sustainable development across these sectors. The ministry issues regulations aimed at strengthening sustainability in fishing, aquaculture and industry according to its official website. The organization has also received international recognition from the OECD for sustainable fishing efforts while providing technical assistance services designed to improve productivity among Peruvian producers according to its official website.
Through these certifications announced this quarter by PRODUCE under ministerial guidance as noted on their official site, authorities say they aim not only at enabling new investments but also fostering cleaner industries through technology adoption—articulating economic growth alongside job creation and environmental responsibility.
