Ministry of Production announces winners of hackathon focused on innovation in key sectors

The Ministry of Production announced on Apr. 24 the winning teams of the Hackathon 1G “Innovate to Transform Realities,” an event organized with the Universidad Católica Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo to promote technological solutions for productive challenges in northern Peru.

This initiative is significant as it encourages young talent to address real-world problems through innovation, particularly in areas such as food security, aquaculture productivity, water resource management, and tourism connectivity.

More than 200 students from 15 educational institutions across six regions participated in the hackathon. Out of 58 applicant teams, 20 advanced to a final round that featured a pitch competition format. The winning teams included Micelix and Plumavit for food security; RecoAquaFeed AI and Acuinexia for aquaculture productivity; Nuwá Tok Tok, Amachac, and Agrotech for water resource management; and XplorePE, Kunaroot, and iXPlorer for tourism connectivity. Winning teams received seed capital awards—S/1000 for first place and S/500 for second—as well as access to mentorships and incubation programs.

Juan Carlos Requejo Alemán, Vice Minister of Micro and Small Enterprises (MYPE) and Industry at PRODUCE, said: “Peru needs more spaces like this where talent, knowledge, and technology come together to solve real problems. Innovating is no longer an option—it is indispensable for development and competitiveness in our regions.” He also said: “From PRODUCE we are committed to continuing opportunities so that ideas become real solutions. This hackathon demonstrates that our regions have talent capable of transforming key productive sectors such as agribusiness, aquaculture, and tourism.”

The role of ProInnóvate was highlighted during the event for strengthening the innovation ecosystem with over S/65.9 million invested nationally—including S/17.7 million dedicated to northern Peru—to foster collaboration between government entities, academia, and businesses.

According to the official website, the Ministry promotes social inclusion initiatives aimed at improving living conditions among fishermen and producers throughout Peru by supporting harmonious development efforts. The Ministry operates from several facilities in San Isidro district in Lima—including its central headquarters—and serves producers, entrepreneurs, communities nationwide under guidance from its ministerial leadership.

The Ministry acts as Peru’s governing body responsible for creating national policies related to fishing, aquaculture industries—particularly micro-, small- ,and medium-sized enterprises—with regulations designed to strengthen sustainable growth according to official sources. It also provides technical assistance services intended to enhance productivity across these sectors while receiving international recognition from organizations such as OECD for sustainable fishing practices according to its website.

During his visit in Lambayeque region connected with this agenda item Juan Carlos Requejo Alemán took part in business training sessions designed specifically around artificial intelligence applications—aimed at students aspiring entrepreneurs—and visited Koplast Industrial company implementing clean production agreements including circular design renewable energy use recycled materials showing sustainability can improve competitiveness.
