The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation announced on May 9 that the Organismo de Formalización de la Propiedad Informal (Cofopri) has launched a training program for nearly 60 officials and technicians from Lima and other regions. The initiative aims to strengthen the execution of urban cadastre processes nationwide.

This training, called “Formación en gestión del Catastro Urbano Nacional,” is being conducted in partnership with the Universidad del Pacífico. It targets directors and technical teams from both institutions as well as representatives from Cofopri’s zonal offices in Arequipa, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Ica, Junín, and Piura.

The program is designed to enhance efficiency in urban cadastre-related procedures. According to the Ministry of Housing, “El catastro no es solo un registro técnico, es la base para planificar las ciudades. De ahí la importancia de trabajar en un registro cada vez más exacto y eficiente. Y eso solo lo conseguimos con personal debidamente capacitado,” said the minister of Housing. Carlos Reátegui Sánchez, executive director of Cofopri, added that this entity “no solo participa en este proceso, sino que cumple una función central como ejecutor de la rectoría del catastro urbano, liderando la generación, actualización y administración de la información catastral a nivel nacional.” The curriculum covers topics such as governance of cadastral systems and technical management tools aimed at improving territorial information quality for public decision-making.

Updated cadastral information supports urban planning and territory management efforts across Peru. The availability of reliable data is expected to contribute to more organized cities and better municipal services while reducing disaster risks.

The Ministry seeks to accelerate progress toward formal property access for millions across Peru by strengthening these processes. Its role includes issuing policies that support sustainable development in housing and water management sectors according to the official website.
