The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation conducted a training session on Apr. 3 for 550 qualified technical entities, focusing on technical criteria for building accessible Social Interest Housing under the Techo Propio program.

This training is part of the “Accessible Homes with Techo Propio” campaign, which aims to reduce housing gaps for people with severe disabilities and promote inclusion. The effort reflects broader policies by the ministry to enhance access to housing and basic services in Peru, as noted on the official website.

During the session, Minister Wilder Sifuentes Quilcate said, “construir viviendas accesibles es un compromiso con la inclusión, la dignidad y la igualdad de oportunidades para todos los peruanos.” He also highlighted that an increase of 25 percent in the Techo Propio Family Housing Bonus for accessible homes serves as a concrete incentive to benefit more families. This bonus allows for larger living spaces and features such as bathrooms with support bars and folding seats, rooms designed for wheelchair mobility, ramps, and other accessibility elements.

The ministry presented an architectural model for accessible Social Interest Housing during the event. This model is available online through Fondo Mivivienda’s website so that technical entities can offer designs meeting accessibility standards from planning onward.

According to the official website, the Ministry of Housing develops policies that promote sustainable access to housing, water, sanitation and urban development throughout Peru. It operates from its headquarters in San Isidro, Lima as well as regional Centers of Citizen Attention across Peru to serve communities nationwide. The ministry functions autonomously within the Peruvian Executive Branch under Law No. 27779 according to its official site.

With this initiative and ongoing policy work—including issuing norms supporting sustainable development—the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to ensuring all families have access to safe and functional homes regardless of physical ability.
