The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation announced on April 9 that it will distribute 118 Emergency Housing Rental Subsidies (BAE) to families who lost their homes due to heavy rains. The initiative aims to help these families secure safe housing and protect their health and wellbeing.
The measure is intended to support households whose homes have been declared collapsed or uninhabitable, providing them with a monthly subsidy of S/500 for up to 24 months while recovery and reconstruction processes take place. This effort seeks to offer dignified living conditions during a period of instability caused by natural disasters.
Families in six regions across the country will benefit from this program. Áncash will receive 22 subsidies in the districts of Huayllán and Quinuabamba (Pomabamba), Arequipa will have seven in Cayma, Ayacucho is set for 21 in Colta (Paucar del Sara Sara), Cajamarca receives 22 in San Miguel, Piura gets 36 in the province of Ayabaca within Pacaimpampa and Ayabaca districts, while San Martín will be assigned ten subsidies in Pucacaca district. Priority is given to those most affected by emergencies.
According to the official website, the Ministry contributes to social wellbeing by enhancing access to housing and basic services as part of its efforts toward sustainable territorial development. The Ministry operates as an autonomous entity within the Peruvian Executive Branch established under Law No. 27779 according to its official website, with headquarters located in San Isidro, Lima, along with regional Centers of Citizen Attention across Peru.
The Ministry develops policies that promote sustainable access to housing, construction, water supply, sanitation, and urban development for Peruvians according to its official website. It also issues policies supporting sustainable development areas such as housing and water management as reported on its website. These initiatives are designed especially for lower-income groups through partnerships with specialized entities as outlined on the ministry’s site.
With this tenth call for applications this year, the Ministry said it aims “to provide timely assistance so that affected families can regain stability and continue their lives safely,” particularly where rain has left many households vulnerable.
