The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation announced on March 20 that it has taken steps in Pasco to ensure families continue to have access to drinking water during recent heavy rains. Through the National Rural Sanitation Program, the ministry supervised water systems, coordinated immediate responses, and promoted preventive measures in vulnerable areas.

These efforts took place in the districts of Oxapampa, Chontabamba, and Villa Rica. Specialists from the ministry directly assessed damage caused by the rainfall to guarantee uninterrupted water service and protect public health, especially in rural communities.

In Oxapampa, technical teams gathered information about emergencies and the condition of water and sanitation infrastructure. This assessment will help determine support actions for affected families, with a focus on immediate solutions.

In San Roque, Chontabamba district, officials found that the potable water system had been flooded due to a river overflow. The municipality quickly intervened to clean and restore the system. The ministry said it will now provide technical assistance for a permanent solution to prevent future incidents.

The work continued in Villa Rica with coordination of preventive measures against possible overflows. Planned activities include clearing sediment from the Entaz River in Cacazú sector using heavy machinery provided by the ministry to reduce risks and protect residents.

According to the ministry’s statement, these actions are part of its strategy for timely response to climate emergencies by prioritizing prevention and working together with local governments. The goal is for more families—even under difficult conditions—to maintain access to essential services like safe drinking water.
