The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation announced on April 9 the installation of an Advanced Command and Control Post in Punta Hermosa to monitor potential emergencies caused by intense rainfall.
The new unit is designed to provide real-time information about the situation in local ravines, helping authorities make informed decisions during possible emergencies. The ministry said this initiative aims to strengthen protection for families facing heavy rains.
“Prevention is vital to reduce risks and loss of human life. This post will allow us to know in advance what might happen, what we can do to guarantee the safety of the population, and what are the best actions we can take,” officials from the Ministry of Housing said.
The facility will enable direct coordination between local authorities and national government representatives. It will help identify critical areas, oversee deployment of heavy machinery for cleaning rivers and ravines, organize water supply for affected zones, and guide families seeking access to emergency housing rental support.
During 2025, three interventions were carried out through the Nuestras Ciudades Program involving cleaning and clearing work at Río Seco Malanche in Punta Hermosa. These efforts removed over 28,000 cubic meters of sediment that could have caused flooding or landslides affecting more than three thousand residents.
The Ministry contributes to social wellbeing by improving access to housing and basic services while promoting sustainable territorial development according to its official website. Its central headquarters are located in San Isidro, Lima with regional centers across Peru as noted on its website. The ministry operates as an autonomous entity within Peru’s Executive Branch established by Law No. 27779 according to its official site.
It develops policies supporting sustainable access to housing, construction, water management and urban development throughout Peru as stated on its website, serving communities nationwide from both headquarters and regional offices per official sources. The ministry issues norms that promote sustainable growth particularly benefiting lower-income groups through partnerships with specialized entities according to its website.
