The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation inaugurated new roads and sidewalks on April 6 in the Terrazas de Catalina Huanca area of El Agustino district, providing improved infrastructure for hundreds of families. The ministry said the project delivers safer, more accessible, and well-lit streets for residents.

This initiative is important because it aims to enhance daily life for local citizens by making public spaces safer and more inclusive. It also supports broader goals to improve urban development and living conditions across Peru.

The construction included roads, sidewalks, stairs, retaining walls, green areas, benches, pergolas, and LED lighting along Víctor Chalco street and nearby passages. The ministry reported that these upgrades allow children, older adults, and people with limited mobility to move around more safely. The project was funded through the Comprehensive Neighborhood Improvement Program with an investment of S/4.2 million. A total of 1,144 square meters of roads were paved while 736 square meters of sidewalks were built. Urban furniture was installed to benefit nearly 967 residents who had awaited these improvements for years.

“It is an honor to deliver this completed public work; it improves not only urban aesthetics but also your quality of life. With these works we increase the value of your homes; with this lighting children can play at night and security can be provided by the police,” said Minister Wilder Sifuentes Quilcate during the inauguration event.

District mayor Richard Soria Fuerte joined Minister Sifuentes Quilcate in reviewing the finished works. Both officials noted that such projects restore dignity and peace to families in the sector by upgrading infrastructure.

On the same day, Minister Sifuentes Quilcate supervised another improvement project on Cupisnique street involving over S/6.7 million in investment for paving 1,620 square meters of roadways as well as constructing wide sidewalks and public spaces for about 192 neighbors.

According to its official website, the Ministry contributes to social wellbeing by enhancing access to housing and basic services while promoting sustainable territorial development throughout Peru from its headquarters in San Isidro (Lima) as well as regional centers nationwide. The autonomous entity operates under Law No. 27779 within Peru’s Executive Branch; it develops policies supporting sustainable access to housing, water management projects—especially benefiting lower-income groups—and maintains partnerships with specialized entities according to official sources.

These recent improvements reaffirm ongoing efforts by the Ministry not only to close gaps in urban infrastructure but also foster environments that are safe and supportive for community growth.
