The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation announced on Apr. 23 that it has enabled rental subsidies for 170 families who lost their homes due to the intense rains in 2026. The measure provides direct support through Emergency Rental Housing Bonds, allowing affected families to access safe housing while they recover.
This action addresses urgent needs after heavy rainfall left many homes collapsed or uninhabitable in regions such as Loreto, Áncash, Huancavelica, Cusco, Lambayeque, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Pasco and Piura. Of the total group identified so far, 69 families have already begun receiving a monthly subsidy of S/500 at local branches of Banco de la Nación. Additional families are expected to start receiving payments in the coming days.
“The Government is where it is most needed. With the BAE we provide a concrete and rapid solution to families who have lost everything, ensuring a decent and safe space from which to rebuild their lives,” said representatives from the Ministry of Housing.
The bonds were distributed following three calls between February and March after ministry specialists verified damaged homes based on reports from district municipalities. In Arequipa alone—one of the hardest-hit regions—25 bonds were made available. Teams led by sector authorities visited districts such as Cayma and Yanahuara following flood events there.
According to the official website, the Ministry develops policies that promote sustainable access to housing and basic services across Peru. It operates autonomously within Peru’s Executive Branch under Law No. 27779 and maintains its headquarters in San Isidro, Lima with regional centers throughout the country.
So far this year nationwide, eleven calls have been approved for up to 1,622 potential beneficiaries of emergency rental support as part of broader efforts toward rehabilitation or reconstruction for those affected by natural disasters.
