The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation delivered keys on Apr. 28 to families benefiting from the Casita Sur-Etapa II project in the Ica region. The event marked the completion of new homes through the Bono Familiar Habitacional program under the Techo Propio initiative.
This development is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to housing for Peruvian families, especially those with lower incomes. The ministry said that these projects aim to reduce gaps in access to safe and adequate housing across the country.
The Casita Sur-Etapa II project involved an investment exceeding S/5.3 million and resulted in 108 single-family homes built on a land area of more than 16,800 square meters. Each home offers a constructed area of 25 square meters on an 80-square-meter lot, including integrated living spaces such as a combined living room and kitchen, two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a patio-laundry area. The complex also features a park with gardens for recreation and community gatherings.
“Se reafirma el compromiso del sector de seguir cerrando brechas de acceso a una vivienda digna y segura en el país,” said representatives from the Ministry of Housing during the handover ceremony.
Nationally, Techo Propio has expanded its reach; by March there were nearly 35,800 new homes available through this program across 356 real estate projects—primarily in La Libertad (10,265), Ica (7,084), and Piura (5,925). Since its inception, Techo Propio has facilitated over 614,000 disbursements through Bono Familiar Habitacional with investments totaling S/15.5 billion. Additionally, the maximum value for social interest housing was raised up to S/136,000.
According to the official website, the Ministry contributes to social wellbeing by improving access to housing and basic services while promoting sustainable territorial development throughout Peru. The Ministry operates as an autonomous entity within Peru’s Executive Branch established by Law No. 27779 and maintains headquarters in San Isidro along with regional centers nationwide.
The agency develops policies that support sustainable access not only to housing but also construction standards and water management initiatives designed for urban development across communities according to the official website. These policies are implemented via partnerships with specialized entities focused on improving conditions particularly for low-income groups.
