The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation delivered on March 17 the first group of Techo Propio houses designed with universal accessibility features to 20 Peruvian families. These homes are intended to support people with severe disabilities by providing living spaces adapted for mobility and autonomy.
The new houses are located in Junín, Piura, Ica, Ucayali, San Martín, Amazonas, Áncash, La Libertad, and Loreto. Each home measures 42 square meters and includes wider doors for wheelchairs, bathrooms with support bars, showers with folding seats, access ramps, and layouts that allow independent movement within the house.
“We will continue working to expand this benefit to more regions and families. We want access to decent housing to be a real right, especially for those who need it most,” said Minister of Housing Wilder Sifuentes Quilcate.
The construction was made possible by a 25 percent increase in the value of the Family Housing Bonus (BFH), which allowed accessibility criteria to be included in both design and execution. The ministry plans to significantly increase the delivery of such homes by the end of 2026 for vulnerable populations.
This initiative is national in scope and prioritizes families facing greater challenges in accessing adequate housing—especially those with members who have severe disabilities. “Thank you to the Ministry of Housing for helping me have a good little house; I will not forget this new beginning for my family,” said one beneficiary from San Martín.
Families interested in applying must have a certificate of severe disability or a yellow Conadis card, form a family group, not have previously received state housing support, own land registered with Public Records, and meet other requirements set by Techo Propio.
