The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation announced on March 30 that it is maintaining its deployment of heavy machinery in the district of Ayna, province of La Mar, Ayacucho region, following an emergency caused by the overflow of the Sankirhuato River.
The ongoing intervention aims to protect residents affected by flooding and reduce risks from possible further rainfall. The ministry said it has worked closely with the regional government since the early days of the emergency. Through its Nuestras Ciudades Program (PNC), a fleet of heavy equipment was sent to clear debris and dredge areas along the right bank of the river and near a bridge.
“We have five machines: an excavator, a front loader, and three dump trucks, plus support from the regional government with an additional excavator. All are operating more than eight hours daily to protect residents,” officials from the Ministry of Housing said.
More than 8,800 cubic meters of stones, mud, and vegetation have been removed so far as part of this coordinated effort. The ministry also reported that its machinery continues assisting in cleaning streets and access roads impacted by landslides to facilitate transit for local residents.
In addition to this emergency response in Ayna, PNC has carried out ten interventions across Ayacucho during 2026—including in Huamanga, Huanta, Vilcas Huamán, and La Mar provinces—removing over 27 thousand cubic meters of sedimented material. These efforts have benefited more than four thousand inhabitants.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected areas by continuing both machinery deployment and preventive actions against emergencies.
