The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation deployed heavy machinery on March 30 to clear access roads and restore traffic in the urban area of Lindero, located in the district of Tomay Kichwa, Ambo province. The area had been affected by a mudslide that left debris and obstructed local transit.
The ministry said it immediately removed debris caused by the landslide, clearing more than 1,800 cubic meters of mud and vegetation over a stretch of 250 meters. This effort benefited approximately 120 residents in the affected zone.
In addition to these emergency actions, work continues under the campaign “La prevención nos une” (Prevention Unites Us) to clean and de-silt riverbeds and streams as a way to reduce risks from potential flooding. Ongoing interventions are taking place along the Huallaga, Frejol, and Huampal rivers as well as Utegmayo stream across the provinces of Huánuco, Marañón, and Puerto Inca. These efforts aim to protect more than 5,000 residents living in vulnerable areas.
So far in 2026, through its Nuestras Ciudades Program, the ministry has carried out five cleaning and de-silting operations along riverbeds in Huánuco, Ambo, and Puerto Inca provinces. These operations have removed over 13,561 cubic meters of sediment—equivalent to about 900 truckloads—over a distance of more than three kilometers for the benefit of some 3,420 people.
The Ministry operates with nineteen basic operational units nationwide designed to respond promptly across all regions at the request of local authorities. Residents or officials seeking further information or coordination can contact pnc@vivienda.gob.pe or call (01)2117930 extension 3113.
