The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation announced on April 30 the start of preparing the technical plans for the Esquema Pucusana project, one of its largest initiatives under the Works for Taxes model.
This project is significant because it aims to improve access to drinking water and sanitation services in Pucusana, benefiting more than 31,900 people. The intervention is funded by Arca Continental Lindley S.A. with an investment exceeding S/402 million. It will provide first-time access to potable water and modern sewerage systems for over 6,100 families in the district.
“It is an important and historic day for the district of Pucusana, because the water and sewerage project, which was once just an idea or a dream, is now a reality. This work will be reflected in improved health and dignity for beneficiaries,” said representatives from the Ministry of Housing.
The plan includes installing new connections for drinking water and sewage as well as upgrading existing ones. Additional works involve building two new reservoirs while optimizing two others, improving two wells with their pumping lines, constructing a cistern and ten pumping chambers. A wastewater treatment plant with a submarine outfall will also be built to ensure proper treatment of wastewater and help protect public health—especially among children and older adults—and preserve the environment.
“When the public sector, private sector, and community work together, results go beyond expectations. Today we begin a new stage for Pucusana through Works for Taxes—with more opportunities and better quality of life. Water for Pucusana is on its way,” said representatives from Arca Continental in Peru.
According to the official website, the ministry contributes to social wellbeing by enhancing access to housing and basic services while fostering sustainable territorial development across Peru. Its headquarters are located in San Isidro, Lima along with regional Centers of Citizen Attention throughout Peru. The ministry operates autonomously within Peru’s Executive Branch under Law No. 27779. It develops policies that promote sustainable access to housing construction as well as urban development. The ministry serves communities nationwide through its central office in Lima plus regional centers supporting initiatives like this one. It issues norms that support sustainable growth particularly related to housing or water management. As stated on its website, it implements projects aiming at better living conditions especially among lower-income groups via partnerships with specialized entities.
