The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS) announced on Mar. 26 the approval of the first call for the Techo Propio program in 2026, which will allow 138 families in the district of San Marcos, province of Huari, Áncash to build their own homes. The initiative was made official through Ministerial Resolution No. 100-2026-VIVIENDA and aims to help more households access safe and formal housing.

This initial call marks the start of the program’s activities for 2026 and is notable for using resources from municipal funds. According to MVCS, over S/10.3 million will be allocated to support these families.

Each family will receive a Family Housing Bonus (BFH) amounting to S/75,000 to construct social interest homes with adequate safety and living conditions. The minimum required savings per family is only S/1.

“This first call is proof that the State can transform lives when it works hand-in-hand with local authorities. Today we are bringing hope to 138 families who will soon have a decent and safe home. Our commitment is to continue expanding these opportunities throughout the country,” said Minister Wilder Sifuentes Quilcate.

The planned houses will have at least 55 square meters of covered area and may be one or two stories high depending on each family’s situation. Accessible designs are also included for households with members who have disabilities.

Registration will take place through authorized Technical Entities, while Fondo Mivivienda will evaluate applicants and publish a list of eligible families to ensure transparency in allocating bonuses.

Construction work is set for Challhuayaco, Gaucho, Quinhuaragra, Pichiu Quinhuaragra population centers as well as urban areas within San Marcos district. The ministry says this effort not only provides secure shelter but also stimulates local economic activity by creating jobs.

With this announcement, MVCS reiterates its commitment to closing Peru’s housing gap by delivering concrete solutions that bring safer living conditions and better future opportunities.
