The Ministry of Health announced on April 22 that it will conduct a respiratory health campaign from April 23 to 25 for residents of San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima. The initiative aims to actively identify cases of tuberculosis and benefit around 1,000 people in the communities of Casablanca, ’10 de Octubre’, and ‘Juan Pablo II’.
This campaign is part of ongoing efforts to address tuberculosis by closing detection gaps and improving timely diagnosis. The activities are organized through the Directorate for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control under the General Directorate for Strategic Public Health Interventions.
On April 23, health teams will be present at the ’10 de Octubre’ market offering respiratory screenings and educational sessions. The next day, services will continue at the ‘Asociación Taller de los Niños’, followed by an event on April 25 at Alameda Casablanca with additional handwashing activities, HIV and syphilis screenings, educational sessions, and immunizations.
Also on April 25, a complementary health campaign will take place at the ‘Juan Pablo II’ Health Center providing medical care in various specialties including medicine, psychology, obstetrics, nutrition, as well as immunizations. Throughout all three days of the campaign, specialized staff from both ‘10 de Octubre’ and ‘Juan Pablo II’ health centers will be available.
Screenings during these dates will use digital radiography equipment with artificial intelligence alongside molecular biology tests and clinical evaluations. Since its launch in 2022, this strategy has screened over 250,000 people and detected more than 3,800 tuberculosis cases according to data provided by the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry said these actions reaffirm its commitment to preventing and eliminating tuberculosis while protecting vulnerable populations.
