The Ministry of Health announced on April 5 that it will carry out a surgical campaign at Hospital Goyeneche in the Arequipa region from April 6 to April 10. The initiative, organized through Minsa Móvil and the Salud en Acción strategy, aims to reduce the surgical waiting list and bring specialized medical services closer to patients who need timely interventions.
The campaign will involve a multidisciplinary team of 14 health professionals, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff. They are scheduled to perform procedures for patients who have been on the waiting list, prioritizing those whose cases require prompt attention to prevent complications.
A total of 48 surgeries are planned during this period, with an average of eight to twelve operations each day. The procedures will be conducted during extended hours—including evening, night, and early morning shifts—to maximize use of operating rooms without disrupting regular hospital services.
Scheduled surgeries include cholecystectomies as well as treatments for inguinal and umbilical hernias, hemorrhoids, lipomas, perianal fistulas and fissures among others. The goal is to improve quality of life for people in the region by providing needed care.
According to the Ministry of Health statement, reducing surgical backlogs is one of its main strategies for closing gaps in access to specialized healthcare. The ministry said these efforts help decentralize care and ensure more Peruvians receive timely and safe treatment.
