The Ministry of Health announced on March 19 that it has sent specialized teams to Cusco to provide technical assistance and supervise hospitals following reports of heavy rainfall in the region. The move aims to improve the response capacity of local health workers and protect public health.
The specialists from the General Directorate for Disaster Risk Management and National Defense in Health were present in Cusco from March 16 to 18. Their visit focused on assessing the condition of health facilities affected by the 2025-2026 rainy season, monitoring operational capacity, and prioritizing interventions as part of the sector’s emergency response.
During their stay, the team provided technical support on information management during emergencies and disasters. This included strengthening timely registration and reporting processes to aid decision-making and effective responses to natural events.
The ministry also guided regional health units in Cusco on how to properly manage funding for short- and medium-term interventions at facilities impacted by the rains. As part of their activities, technical staff visited Hospital II Túpac Amaru and Regional Hospital of Cusco to check operational conditions firsthand and ensure continuity of healthcare services.
According to the Ministry of Health, ongoing monitoring will continue nationwide so that preventive actions and emergency responses can be activated as needed.
