The Ministry of Health announced on April 30 that more than 20,000 confidential mental health consultations were provided through the free Line 113 service during the first quarter of 2026. The announcement was made in recognition of Peruvian Psychologist Day, observed every April 30.
This information is important as it highlights the growing demand for mental health support and the role of accessible services in addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, and stress across Peru.
According to the Ministry, a total of 20,059 orientations were conducted. Of these cases, approximately 23 percent related to depression, while anxiety accounted for about 20 percent. Other reasons for consultation included personal conflicts (15 percent), psychotic behavior (8 percent), and stress (6 percent). Adults represented the majority of users at roughly 55 percent or over eleven thousand people. Young people comprised around thirty percent. Most contacts—84 percent—were made by telephone call with the remainder via WhatsApp.
The Ministry said that Line 113 operates nationwide and is staffed by psychologists who provide active listening and emotional support around the clock throughout the year. The service assists individuals facing stress, anxiety, depression, suicidal behavior or other situations affecting their emotional well-being.
During each session on Line 113, psychologists help users recognize their situation and emotions while guiding them toward healthy coping strategies. The service also encourages individuals to identify personal resources such as activities that promote well-being and security.
The Ministry called on citizens to value the work performed by mental health professionals “who accompany thousands of people during difficult times with commitment and empathy.” It also reminded residents that seeking help is a fundamental step in caring for one’s mental health.
