The Ministry of Health announced on Apr. 4 that 61 patients in the province of Rioja, San Martín region, underwent surgeries during a recent campaign organized by Minsa Móvil and the Salud en Acción strategy.
The campaign is significant as it aims to provide specialized health services to regions where access is limited and surgical waitlists are long. By bringing medical teams directly to communities, the Ministry seeks to reduce gaps in healthcare access.
Among those helped was Delicia, a 42-year-old mother of three who suffered from persistent chest pain for a year. After her operation for fibroadenoma, she said she can now return to her daily routine without pain: “Sentía punzadas y escalofríos.”
Itamar, aged 59 from the village of Palestina in Nueva Cajamarca district, had surgery for genital prolapse after experiencing discomfort and urinary issues that made daily life difficult. Her family supports her recovery following the procedure. Imelda, a 35-year-old mother who arrived at the hospital with fever and severe abdominal pain due to an ovarian cyst, also received timely intervention and is recovering well.
Luz, age 26 from San Francisco community center, waited months for specialist care due to shortages in her area. She underwent gallbladder surgery after suffering intense stomach pain and vomiting. “Ahora me siento bien y recuperándome gracias a la campaña,” Luz said.
The surgical campaign took place from March 26 to March 31 at Hospital II–1 de Rioja. According to the Ministry of Health’s announcement, these interventions demonstrate its commitment to providing safe and timely surgeries while working toward reducing waiting lists and improving healthcare access across regions.
