The Ministry of Health announced on April 11 that its Minsa Móvil program completed a surgical campaign at Hospital Goyeneche in Arequipa, performing 50 surgeries and providing 100 specialized consultations between April 6 and April 10.
The campaign aimed to reduce the waiting list for surgical procedures and improve access to free, quality health services in the region. According to the ministry, a multidisciplinary team of fourteen health professionals—including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff—carried out the operations during extended hours. This included nighttime and early morning shifts to maximize use of operating rooms without disrupting regular hospital activities.
Procedures conducted during this period addressed conditions such as chronic cholecystitis, hernias, lipomas, perianal fissures, among others. The ministry said these efforts contributed directly to narrowing gaps in access to specialized care and improving patients’ quality of life.
This initiative is part of the Ministry of Health’s national strategy to address surgical backlogs. The ministry said it remains committed to bringing healthcare services closer to regions with high demand for specialized attention by optimizing operational capacity at local facilities.
Officials indicated that similar campaigns may continue as part of ongoing efforts to respond effectively to population needs.
