The Ministry of Health presented a new episode of its podcast, Minsa Cuentos, on March 17. The latest edition features the story of Jorge and his visit to the ophthalmologist, focusing on why rubbing eyes with dirty hands can lead to infection.
The episode, titled “Jorge y las legañas pegajosas,” is designed to help young children learn about eye health and how to prevent conjunctivitis in an engaging way. The story follows Jorge, a member of a group of explorers, who after handling earthworms and objects outdoors, fails to wash his hands properly—using only water and drying them with his shirt—before rubbing his itchy eyes.
A few days later, Jorge develops sticky yellowish discharge in his eyes that makes it difficult for him to see light. His parents take him to the nearest health center where a doctor explains that the infection was caused by bacteria from his dirty hands. After following the prescribed treatment and learning from the experience, Jorge becomes an advocate for hygiene among his fellow explorers.
Minsa Cuentos is produced by the General Communications Office of the Ministry of Health. Its goal is to promote healthy habits among children through storytelling. The program is available on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcast via the Ministry’s official accounts.
