The Ministry of Health carried out a respiratory health campaign in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, reaching more than 1,000 people with prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive care services according to an April 27 statement.
The campaign aimed to bring essential health services closer to those most in need. The intervention was led by the Directorate for Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis in coordination with the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks Lima Centro through RIS 6 and RIS 7 for the communities ’10 de Octubre’, ‘Juan Pablo II’, and ‘Casablanca’.
From April 23 to April 25, activities took place at five strategic locations. At the ’10 de Octubre’ market, educational sessions were held. In the association ‘Taller de los Niños’, both educational activities and vaccination were provided. In Alameda Casablanca sector, there were handwashing workshops, educational sessions on tuberculosis prevention, screening for HIV and syphilis, as well as immunizations.
Health centers ‘10 de Octubre’ and ‘Su Santidad Juan Pablo II’ offered continuous attention during all three days of the campaign. The latter also conducted a comprehensive campaign including medical consultations, psychology services, obstetrics care, nutrition advice, and immunizations.
A central part of this intervention was early detection of tuberculosis using digital X-rays assisted by artificial intelligence alongside clinical evaluations and molecular tests. This approach enabled timely identification of cases to help reduce disease transmission.
These efforts are part of a national strategy focused on active case finding for tuberculosis—strengthening timely diagnosis while bringing primary healthcare closer especially to vulnerable populations. The Ministry said it remains committed to preventing and controlling tuberculosis through community interventions that improve access to integrated health services.
