The Ministry of Health deployed intervention teams on March 18 to the Ayabaca province in Piura, providing more than 300 medical consultations at the Coliseo de Ayabaca. The action was taken in response to a climate emergency affecting the region.
The deployment aims to address the needs of vulnerable populations impacted by persistent rains and deteriorating road conditions. The Coliseo de Ayabaca was set up as a mass care center due to high demand and limited access to surrounding communities.
By 2:00 p.m., multidisciplinary teams from the General Directorate for Disaster Risk Management and National Health Defense (Digerd) had delivered services including triage with 200 evaluations, pediatrics with 45 consultations, pediatric dentistry with 45 interventions, and topical care with 15 treatments.
The Ministry’s contingent includes doctors, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, dentists, and psychologists who remain in the area to ensure continued healthcare delivery. Digerd said it will maintain close coordination with local and regional governments to expand coverage as long as adverse weather conditions persist.
Officials said these efforts are part of an ongoing commitment to protect remote populations by ensuring timely and quality health responses during natural emergencies.
