The Ministry of Health carried out a vaccination campaign on April 18 at the esplanade of Alejandro Villanueva Stadium (Matute) before the match between Alianza Lima and Cusco FC. The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of immunization as a key tool for protecting the health of all Peruvians.
“Today we are scoring a goal against diseases with vaccines. Health and sports go hand in hand: a healthy life begins in childhood, with proper vaccination and healthy habits,” said Dr. Luis Napoleón Quiroz Avilés, Minister of Health.
During the event, Quiroz Avilés said that Peru is experiencing an important moment in strengthening its health system, mentioning the national acquisition of more than 200 million medicines and an investment exceeding S/ 500 million in vaccines to ensure supply across the country.
He also noted that Peru currently offers a schedule of 18 vaccines that protect against 28 diseases, reaffirming state presence throughout the territory, especially where it is most needed.
The minister thanked Alianza Lima and ALAFARPE for their partnership in this campaign, emphasizing the essential role played by private sector partners and sports clubs in promoting public health. “The blanquiazul hearts join with the heart of vaccination to tell Peru that vaccines are guaranteed,” he said. He added that such actions confirm how sports can help bring health services closer to people and strengthen prevention efforts nationwide.
Quiroz Avilés called on Peruvian families to take responsibility for their health: “The greatest act of love is taking our children, pregnant women, and elderly people to get vaccinated.” He concluded by announcing plans for launching Vaccination Week in the Americas soon—a major effort aimed at expanding immunization coverage.
