The Ministry of Health announced on March 20 that its Minsa Móvil program, together with the Salud en Acción strategy, carried out a specialized surgical campaign at the Regional Hospital of Pucallpa. The initiative aimed to treat patients who were on waiting lists, allowing them to receive free and safe care in their own region without needing to travel to Lima.
A multidisciplinary team of 14 health professionals—including general surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff—attended to 63 patients during the campaign. Of these, 53 underwent surgical procedures. The ages of those treated ranged from 20 to 82 years old.
This first surgical campaign of the year included laparoscopic cholecystectomies, hernioplasties, hemorrhoidectomies, and other interventions. All patients reportedly recovered well and were discharged without complications. The effort contributed to reducing both the care gap and the waiting list for surgeries in the region.
Surgeries were performed during afternoon, night, and early morning hours so as not to disrupt the hospital’s regular schedule. This approach allowed for more efficient use of operating rooms and enabled treatment for patients who had been waiting several months for surgery.
According to the Ministry of Health, these actions are part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing accumulated surgical waitlists and ensuring access to specialized services in regions with high demand and limited capacity. The goal is also to prevent additional expenses for patients and reduce long waits for specialized care.
