The Ministry of Health, through the Directorate for the Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis, announced on May 15 that it has conducted new monitoring and supervision visits focused on pharmacovigilance at various health establishments in Metropolitan Lima.
These actions are part of the Directorate’s Supervision and Monitoring Plan. The plan aims to address the high number of tuberculosis cases recorded in the capital by strengthening patient follow-up, verifying proper implementation of current protocols, and ensuring correct management of new treatment regimens for both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant tuberculosis.
During these technical visits, teams from the Ministry supervised processes related to detecting, reporting, and following up on possible adverse reactions to medications. The ministry said these efforts help ensure that health facilities provide safe, timely, and quality care to people affected by tuberculosis.
Technical assistance was also provided to healthcare staff during these visits. This support is intended to reinforce their skills in pharmacovigilance and promote compliance with national guidelines designed to improve patient adherence to treatment and recovery outcomes.
Tuberculosis remains one of Peru’s main public health problems. A significant number of cases are concentrated in Metropolitan Lima. The Ministry continues its work on prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment as part of ongoing public health efforts under Minister Juan Carlos Velasco’s leadership.
The ministry said these measures reaffirm its commitment to strengthening healthcare actions for vulnerable populations.
