The Ministry of Health, through its Directorate for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control, conducted a monitoring and supervision visit in the San Martín region on April 10. The goal was to strengthen efforts related to the prevention, diagnosis, and timely detection of tuberculosis.
During the technical session, a specialized team visited various health facilities, hospitals, and reference laboratories. They evaluated care processes and provided technical assistance to improve the health response against this disease.
Facilities visited included Hospital Banda de Shilcayo, the Regional Reference Laboratory, UNET, and Nueve de Abril Health Center in Tarapoto; as well as Hospital II – E Juanjuí “MC Luis Izquierdo Vásquez” and Moyobamba Hospital. Additional visits were made to Nueva Cajamarca Hospital, Lluyllucucha Health Center, Nueva Rioja Health Center, the Regional Directorate of Medicines (DIREMID), along with technical meetings with DIRESA San Martín for reviewing reports and strengthening strategies.
As part of their agenda, coordinations were also held for implementing a digital radiology system with artificial intelligence in the region. This tool is expected to significantly improve both speed and accuracy in detecting tuberculosis cases.
These actions aim to identify opportunities for improvement within health services, reinforce staff capabilities, ensure comprehensive care for those affected by tuberculosis, reduce transmission rates, and advance towards controlling the disease within the region.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continue working jointly with regional authorities to guarantee quality health services and make progress in combating tuberculosis nationwide.
