The Ministry of Health announced on March 23 that it will carry out a specialized medical campaign in the Tumbes region from March 25 to 27. The initiative, led by Minsa Móvil, aims to provide free healthcare services across ten medical specialties and preventive exams for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
This campaign seeks to ensure timely healthcare access and reduce barriers faced by residents in Tumbes. The multidisciplinary team will operate at different health centers each day: Zarumilla I-4 Health Center on the first day, Gerardo Gonzáles Villegas Health Post on the second day, and Zorritos Health Center on the third. Services offered include pediatrics, cardiology, pulmonology, dermatology, ophthalmology, endocrinology, traumatology, internal medicine, family medicine and otolaryngology. Additional services such as general medicine, obstetrics, nutrition counseling, ultrasound scans, optometry checks, immunizations as well as free distribution of medicines and reading glasses will also be available.
According to the ministry’s statement: “During the intervention it will be possible to identify undiagnosed diseases early on; provide immediate treatment; guide people about health care; and refer patients who require more complex care—helping prevent complications and improve quality of life for people in Tumbes.”
The region has recently experienced challenges due to a leptospirosis outbreak and heavy rainfall associated with El Niño Costero phenomenon. These events have affected transportation routes and increased travel costs for residents seeking healthcare services. The deployment of Minsa Móvil is intended to bring specialized medical attention closer to affected communities.
The ministry highlighted its ongoing commitment by noting that during 2025 alone five similar campaigns were conducted in Tumbes through Minsa Móvil—resulting in a total of 5,55 medical consultations and 229 surgical interventions.
