The Ministry of Health announced on Apr. 28 that it is increasing vaccination efforts nationwide as part of Vaccination Week in the Americas, which began with a launch event in Chiclayo on Apr. 25.
The campaign, held under the slogan “Vaccination for all,” will run until May 3 and aims to ensure timely and free access to vaccines included in the regular immunization schedule. The ministry said that vaccines being administered include those protecting against measles, mumps, rubella (SPR), respiratory diseases such as influenza and pneumococcus, human papillomavirus (HPV), and pertussis among others.
The Ministry of Health urged parents to bring their children to health centers and check that they have received all required vaccinations. The ministry said this is an act of love and responsibility because incomplete vaccination schedules expose children to serious but preventable diseases.
According to the announcement, the campaign targets all people but focuses especially on children under five years old, children under ten with incomplete vaccination schedules, adolescents, pregnant women, adults, and people over sixty years old. Health brigades are visiting homes as well as markets and community spaces to ensure no one is left unprotected. Staff involved are identified and trained to provide information about vaccines.
Citizens are encouraged by the ministry to welcome health brigades into their homes or visit nearby health facilities for any pending doses. The ministry reiterated its commitment by stating that vaccinating protects life and called on families across Peru to review their children’s vaccination cards and seek timely immunization services.
The Ministry also reminded citizens that vaccinations are available year-round at all health facilities throughout the country.
