The Ministry of Health intensified its immunization strategy in Lima Norte during the Week of Vaccination in the Americas, according to an April 28 announcement. The campaign aims to protect thousands of Peruvians and close gaps in vaccination coverage, especially among vulnerable populations.
The event included a parade featuring students, teachers, parents, and health staff from the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Health Center. The procession began at I.E. 2007 Rosa de las Américas and ended at Merprolima market, delivering creative messages about the importance of vaccines.
As part of this public health initiative, a special vaccination route was established through three local markets: Merprolima Producers Market in Los Olivos was the starting point early in the morning. Immunization efforts then continued at Conzac market and Los Incas market in Independencia district. Mobile vaccination units were set up inside these markets to provide families with quick, safe, and free access to vaccines.
During these activities, residents could receive routine vaccinations including measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), influenza, pneumococcus, human papillomavirus (HPV), pertussis (whooping cough), among others.
Melissa Barrón, Coordinator of Immunizations for Diris Lima Norte and spokesperson for the event said: “This campaign is important to protect the population and prevent the reappearance of vaccine-preventable diseases.” She also said that health brigades are being deployed across homes, markets, schools and community spaces to bring safe and quality vaccines closer to everyone free of charge.
The Ministry urges parents to check their children’s vaccination records and visit their nearest health center if doses are missing. Routine vaccinations are available year-round at all health facilities nationwide.
