The Ministry of Health carried out a civic action for residents of Barrio Seguro in the Ica region, according to an April 28 announcement. The event was organized by the Directorate General for Disaster Risk Management and National Defense in Health, with support from the Regional Health Directorate of Ica and Santa María del Socorro Hospital.
The initiative aimed to bring essential health services closer to the community. Comprehensive care was offered, including psychology, nutrition, oral health, and eye care. The activities took place at Educational Institution No. 34 “Pedreros” in the district of Ica.
Additional services included growth and development checkups for children, management of acute respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases, prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, as well as care targeted at adults and older adults. There were also programs focused on tuberculosis control and prevention, cancer strategy implementation, HIV care, sexually transmitted infection screening, along with an emergency monitoring area.
This intervention is part of the Multisectoral Strategy Barrio Seguro approved by Supreme Decree No. 008-2017-IN. According to the Ministry of Health statement: “Through these actions, the Ministry fulfills its objective to decentralize healthcare and promote healthy lifestyles in the Ica region.” The ministry said it will continue such civic actions nationwide through Digerd.
The ministry added that these efforts are designed to ensure ongoing access to healthcare services across Peru while reducing gaps in attention and preparing communities for possible emergencies or disaster risks.
