The Ministry of Health announced on March 31 that it will deploy health personnel and equipment to support people participating in the Holy Week pilgrimage to San Cristóbal hill on April 2 and 3. The effort is coordinated by the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks (Diris) Lima Centro.
The deployment aims to ensure immediate medical attention during the religious activities, which traditionally draw thousands of participants. Two satellite medical posts will be set up in high-traffic areas: one at the esplanade of San Cristóbal hill and another in the Santa Rosita sector. An ambulance equipped for emergencies will also be present.
A Command Post for Health (PCS) will operate nearby to coordinate tactical operations and decision-making. The Ministry said these actions, carried out with other state institutions such as SAMU, are designed to provide timely care in case of any incidents during the Catholic celebrations.
Health brigades specializing in emergencies and disasters will conduct active searches, safe evacuations, and prompt assistance for pilgrims ascending San Cristóbal hill. The goal is to strengthen response capacity against potential health problems such as dehydration, falls, heatstroke, fires, or earthquakes.
Medical teams are prepared to prioritize care for young children, adolescents, adults, older adults, and people with disabilities who participate actively in these events. The Ministry recommends that pilgrims wear comfortable cotton clothing with long sleeves; bring a wide-brimmed hat or portable umbrella; use sunglasses with UV protection; apply sunscreen; carry water; pack lightly; and avoid bringing very young children or elderly individuals who may have difficulty walking.
