The Ministry of Health carried out a medical campaign from April 1 to April 5 to assist citizens in the Achu, Yamakay, Entza, and Najain native communities in the Cahuapanas district of Loreto. The campaign focused on providing care for patients affected by respiratory febrile syndrome.
This initiative is significant as it aims to address health needs and prevent the spread of illness among remote indigenous populations who may have limited access to healthcare services.
According to the Ministry of Health, coordination between the ministries of Health, Defense, and Culture allowed two doctors, an epidemiologist, and five nurses from the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) San Martín to be airlifted into Achu community. During this effort, 200 kilograms of medicines and supplies were delivered for patient treatment.
The ministry said that the goal was “to contain the event, interrupt transmission chains, and prevent disease spread to neighboring communities.” Healthcare personnel provided medical attention, vaccinations, and conducted field epidemiological investigations with sample collection. Additionally, a pregnant woman was transferred during the campaign to Tarapoto Hospital where she received specialized care.
Officials said these actions demonstrate their commitment “to safeguard public health,” especially for those living in remote areas.
