The Ministry of Health, through Minsa Móvil and the Salud en Acción strategy, announced on March 31 the completion of a surgical campaign at Hospital II-1 in Rioja, San Martín region, performing a total of 61 high-complexity surgeries.
This effort aimed to reduce the backlog of surgeries in the region by providing specialized care to patients who had been waiting for months. The campaign was part of an initiative to improve access to healthcare and enhance the quality of life for local residents.
The campaign began on March 26 and involved a multidisciplinary team of 16 health professionals, including general surgeons, gynecologists, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff. They carried out medium- and high-complexity procedures such as hysterectomies, myomectomies, laparoscopic cystectomies, and hernioplasties. The team scheduled between six and ten surgeries per day after evaluating eligible patients aged between 16 and 85 years old. All procedures were performed under strict clinical safety standards.
In addition to the surgeries completed during this period, medical staff provided 88 pre- and postoperative consultations as well as conducted 23 gynecological ultrasounds. These additional services supported diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care for patients.
According to the Ministry’s report from this operation, all patients have been discharged without complications following their procedures. Officials said that beyond numerical results, this campaign represents a concrete response by the state to bring specialized health services closer to those most in need in San Martín.
