The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the ‘Doctores de Guardia’ program, launched a medical campaign on March 23 outside Panamericana Televisión in Lima to bring health services closer to the public. The event focused on providing free vaccinations and preventive screenings for vulnerable populations.
The campaign took place at the ‘Esquina de la Televisión,’ where attendees received free vaccinations against yellow fever, influenza, and pneumococcus. These vaccines aim to protect against mosquito-borne viral diseases prevalent in jungle or endemic areas, reduce respiratory complications from influenza, and prevent infections such as pneumonia and meningitis—especially among children and older adults.
Health professionals offered additional services including diabetes screening to detect high blood sugar levels early and blood pressure checks. Older adults arrived at the television station’s location in Santa Beatriz to receive their respective pneumococcal and influenza vaccines. Passersby also participated by updating their immunization schedules with any missing doses.
Doris Rojas Peña, director of the Immunizations Directorate at the Ministry of Health, said that these interventions are part of a sector-wide strategy: “These interventions form part of the strategy of the sector to strengthen prevention and access to health services, prioritizing actions that save lives through vaccination and timely diagnosis.”
The Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to continue these mobile campaigns so that public health services can efficiently reach all sectors free of charge.
