The Ministry of Health of Peru, in coordination with the Peruvian Army, announced on April 27 a successful voluntary blood donation campaign held simultaneously at three military facilities: the Army General Headquarters in San Borja, the Military Health Center in Rímac, and the Military Polyclinic in Chorrillos.
The main goal of this initiative was to strengthen blood bank supplies and ensure timely care for patients needing transfusions during emergencies, surgeries, or specialized treatments. The campaign collected 183 units of blood that will benefit up to 550 patients.
María Inés Quiróz Linares, advisor to the Office of the Vice Minister for Public Health, thanked all voluntary donors and invited other institutions to join similar campaigns. “I invite other institutions to join these sensitive and moving campaigns that help save lives nationwide,” Quiróz Linares said.
Mary Díaz Gálvez, director general of the Directorate General for Donations, Transplants and Blood Banks, also attended. “We highlight the joint work between institutions to guarantee safe and timely access to blood and its components so we can continue saving lives,” Díaz Gálvez said.
Representing the Peruvian Army was Brigadier General Cristian Alberto García Rodríguez. “It is important to promote voluntary donation as an act of solidarity that saves lives,” García Rodríguez said.
The collected units were sent to high-demand hospitals such as Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño San Borja, Hospital María Auxiliadora, and Hospital Militar Central. Each donation can save up to three lives. The Ministry of Health and Army have agreed to organize at least four such campaigns per year moving forward.
