The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism announced on Apr. 18 the launch of a regional project aimed at helping micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises expand their exports through digital channels within the Pacific Alliance countries.
This initiative is designed to help Peruvian businesses access new markets in Chile, Colombia, and Mexico by making use of opportunities in the digital environment. The ministry said it hopes this will make it easier for more companies to enter and compete in these markets.
According to the official website, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism advances national strategies for foreign trade by promoting business expansion and sustainable tourism development according to the official website. The new project will provide training, specialized technical assistance, and public-private collaboration over twelve months. It aims to support 200 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises from member countries as they make their first digital exports within the bloc.
The ministry highlighted that this is the first joint effort among Pacific Alliance countries focused on cross-border e-commerce. The project is carried out by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), funded by the Pacific Alliance Cooperation Fund. It falls under a broader roadmap developed by Peru’s Technical Group on Small Businesses within the alliance.
The Ministry belongs to Peru’s Executive Branch with sector-specific autonomy according to its official website, serving communities across Peru with a focus on trade facilitation as reported by its official site. It collaborates with organizations such as PromPerú as well as other public and private entities according to its official site.
Looking ahead, officials say that positioning digital commerce as a driver for growth can improve inclusion and competitiveness among Peruvian companies. The ministry has been directing policies on foreign trade since its establishment in 2002 as stated on its official website.
