The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) announced on March 18 that it has completed three rural electrification projects during the first quarter of 2026, bringing electricity to 5,212 residents in 30 communities across the regions of Amazonas, Ayacucho, and Huancavelica.
These projects represent a combined investment of more than S/ 17.2 million. The aim is to improve the quality of life for families in rural areas and promote new opportunities for productive, educational, and social development.
The first project involved creating, improving, and expanding electricity service in 13 communities in the district of Chuquibamba, province of Chachapoyas (Amazonas), providing power to 2,404 people. Another project was completed in the district of Oronccoy, province of La Mar (Ayacucho), where electricity service was established for 15 communities. This initiative benefits 2,168 residents who now have access to electricity for their productive activities. In addition, improvements and expansions were made to rural electrification services in Ccochaccasa and Millpo in the district of Ccochaccasa, province of Angaraes (Huancavelica).
MINEM said these works are part of government policy aimed at reducing gaps in access to electricity in rural areas. The ministry said this contributes to better living conditions for the population and strengthens territorial development.
MINEM also said it will continue promoting rural electrification projects throughout various regions with the goal of ensuring more Peruvians have access to safe, continuous, and quality electrical service. The ministry described this as a fundamental driver for community progress.
