The Ministry of Education of Peru announced on April 26 that it has restored educational services at School 60633 in the community of Bretaña, district of Puinahua, Requena province, Loreto. The action follows concerns from parents about a lack of teachers that threatened the continuation of classes.
This development is important because it addresses gaps in teacher assignments at the start of the 2026 school year and ensures students can continue their learning without further interruption. According to the ministry, four new teachers have been transferred to the area after coordination with UGEL Requena.
The director of UGEL Requena, Raúl del Águila Meza, said that “the four teachers identified as surplus are already being transferred to the area and classes will resume this Monday, April 27.” The ministry reported that classrooms had reached nearly 40 students each—above recommended levels—prompting immediate intervention. School 60633 now operates as a full multi-teacher institution with new infrastructure and currently has twelve teaching positions. Due to increased enrollment targets for next year, six additional positions are needed.
A virtual meeting is scheduled for Monday between officials from Minedu’s Technical Normative Directorate for Teachers (DITEN) to coordinate and verify further teacher assignments as necessary. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment by stating: “The Ministry of Education ratifies its commitment to guarantee continuity of educational service in rural areas in Loreto and remains alert to any situation that may threaten normal class development.”

It also promotes sports opportunities as part of its educational initiatives according to its official website, advances equity and interculturality while working against discrimination according to its official website, and ensures access to quality education while fostering social inclusion according to its official website.
