The Ministry of Education of Peru opened a new edition of the Festival del Libro y la Lectura “Estación de Lectores” on April 24, dedicated this year to children’s and youth literature. The event is being held at the Casa de la Literatura Peruana in Lima and will run until Sunday.

The festival aims to promote Peruvian literature through a variety of cultural activities including book fairs, presentations, exhibitions, discussions, talks, and workshops. This initiative is intended to encourage reading among children and young people by providing access to literary works that contribute to their overall development.

At the opening ceremony, Gerber Pérez, Vice Minister of Pedagogical Management representing Minister María Esther Cuadros, invited parents to bring their children so they can discover books that support their comprehensive education. Pérez also said that the Casa de la Literatura is undergoing a decentralization process and announced that similar festivals will be organized in other regions.

Writers, artists, and cultural promoters are participating in the event with programming designed for students from preschool through secondary school across different educational modalities. The Ministry of Education serves students, teachers and communities throughout Peru according to its official website.

The ministry promotes cultural and social well-being by advancing equity, interculturality and eliminating discrimination in education according to its official website. It also ensures access to quality education while fostering equity and social inclusion for all Peruvians according to its official website.

In addition to supporting literary initiatives like this festival, the Ministry oversees national education policy with an autonomous status since its founding in 1837.
