The Ministry of Education of Peru announced on April 30 that it has extended the deadline for submitting candidates for the Palmas Magisteriales, the highest honor given by the Peruvian government to teachers and professionals who have made significant contributions to education. The new deadline is Friday, May 8.
This extension aims to allow more public and private institutions to identify and nominate professionals whose work has had a notable impact on student achievement, educational innovation, and strengthening the education system.
The award is presented in three categories: Educador, which recognizes classroom teaching and commitment to student learning; Maestro, which honors those with an impact at local or regional levels; and Amauta, the highest distinction, which acknowledges contributions with national or international reach in education, science, or culture. Nominations must be submitted by educational institutions, universities, unions, associations or other entities linked to education. Self-nominations are not permitted.
Interested organizations must submit a nomination form along with supporting documents as required at https://www.minedu.gob.pe/palmas-magisteriales/. In addition to public recognition, recipients receive economic benefits such as lifetime bonuses for Educador and Maestro categories and a one-time payment for Amauta category.
