The Ministry of Education of Peru announced on Apr. 23 that it is implementing a comprehensive overhaul of the National Program for Scholarships and Educational Credit, aiming to improve efficiency, transparency, and the impact of public investment in higher education.
This announcement is significant as it affects students seeking postgraduate opportunities abroad through the Bicentennial Generation Scholarship. The ministry clarified that this scholarship, which supports studies at prestigious international universities, will now be included in the modernization process with an emphasis on ensuring state investment directly contributes to national development.
In accordance with the 2026 Budget Law, the ministry said that through Pronabec it will prioritize supporting current scholarship recipients so they can continue and complete their studies. As part of these changes, there will be no new call for applications for this scholarship cycle in order to ensure responsible and sustainable use of public resources. The ministry stated that this restructuring aims to optimize resource allocation, strengthen monitoring of scholars, and guarantee measurable impact within Peru.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment “with access to quality higher education based on equity, meritocracy and national relevance,” emphasizing its goal that beneficiaries actively contribute to Peru’s development.
The Ministry serves students, teachers and communities throughout all regions according to its official website.
